This online event will feature new findings on the latest Participatory Budgeting (PB) process in New York. PB is a unique civic engagement opportunity that allows community members — instead of elected officials alone — to decide how public funds should be spent, from start to finish. In Cycle 4 (2014-15) more than 50,000 New Yorkers turned out to vote in PB and determined the allocation of more than $30 million of City Council funds for capital projects in their Council Districts.
The webinar will detail research findings derived from thousands of Participatory Budgeting surveys as well as a panel discussion about PB implementation, outreach and engagement with Celina Su (City University of New York), Aaron Jones (Community Voices Heard), and Ivan Luevanos (New York City Council, Office of Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito, Community Engagement Division).
